Undergraduate-Level Coursework Plan for the Secondary Teacher Preparation Program in Social Science (Political Science)

The Secondary Teacher Preparation Program in Social Science is designed for students who anticipate teaching history and social science in grades 6-8 or 9-12 in school settings that are departmentalized. Because of the rigorous standards set by the State of California for teacher credentialing, the Program at LMU is very specific in terms of the coursework you will be taking. With careful planning, however, it is possible to complete a Political Science major, the University’s Core Curriculum requirements, the Secondary Teacher Preparation Program’s subject-matter courses in social science, and the School of Education’s required courses in four-and-one-half years (nine semesters). Students with a Political Science major, choosing to complete this four-and-one-half-year plan, will fulfill all of the required coursework at the undergraduate level that will lead to a B.A. degree, with a major in Political Science, and the California 2042 Preliminary Social Science Single-Subject Credential.
