MECH 631 Elasticity3 semester hours Analysis of stress and strain, stress tensor, Mohr's circles for stress and strain, Hooke's law and stress-strain diagrams, equations of equilibrium and compatibility, two-dimensional plane problems in elasticity, Airy stress functions, failure criteria, stresses in thin-walled cylinders and spheres, stress concentration factors, stresses in thick-walled cylinders and disks, energy methods. A brief introduction to the mathematics of vector calculus and indicial notation. Lecture, 3 hours. Graduate standing required. |
