PHYS 1100 Introduction to Mechanics4 semester hours Vectors, Newton's laws of motion, work and energy, impulse and momentum, rotation, angular momentum, static equilibrium, harmonic motion. May include a brief introduction to quantum mechanics. Laboratory experiments pertaining to mechanics. Measurement, estimation, and uncertainty. Projectile motion, Newton's laws, friction, torque. Lecture, 3 hours; Laboratory, 2 hours. Prerequisite: MATH 131 or concurrent enrollment. |
