Master of Science in Applied Business Research (MSABR)

The LMU DBA program includes an exit option for students who may face unforeseen circumstances or changes in their professional or personal lives that prevent them from completing the DBA program. This exit option allows students to receive a Master of Science in Applied Business Research (MSABR) degree, ensuring that their efforts and achievements are still recognized with a valuable credential.

Eligibility Criteria

Only enrolled DBA students are eligible for the MSABR under the following circumstances:

  • Failure to Pass Preliminary Exam: Students who do not pass the preliminary exam may choose to retake the exam in the summer or early fall of their third year. If the exam is not passed, it may be retaken one time only. If the preliminary exam is not passed after two attempts, the student will be awarded an M.S. in Applied Business Research.
  • Failure to Pass Dissertation Proposal Defense: Students who do not pass the dissertation proposal defense will be awarded the MSABR.
  • Voluntary Exit: Students who decide not to pursue or complete the dissertation will be awarded the MSABR.

To be awarded the MSABR, students must apply to advance their candidacy after completing the required 45 units and maintaining a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
