Department: Film and Television Production
Modality: In-Person
Concentrations: n/a
Semester Hours: 62-63
By studying a diverse canon of great films and filmmakers, students will gain a broad understanding of the history and socio-historical contexts of American and global film, television, and emerging media to inspire them to create transformative works of their own.
Students will master the methods of fiction or non-fiction storytelling - through screenwriting, creative producing, cinematography and lighting, directing, post-production picture editing, and post-production sound - to create content with unique cinematic expression, engaging dramatic structure, and technical craft mastery.
By analyzing past historical works and applying technical and storytelling skills, students will be able to produce works with a strong personal voice that show vision and imagination.
Students will work constructively to problem solve and collaborate in diverse teams to create impactful media.
The BFA program is more specialized and professionally oriented. It typically places a stronger emphasis on practical skill, production, and intensive training in specific areas such as directing, cinematography, editing, or screenwriting.
BFA programs are designed to prepare students directly for careers in the film and television industry. This includes building a portfolio, networking opportunities, and potentially industry internships.
